Not "glow-in-the-dark" perfect men...

This afternoon my son and I went to a men's fellowship "steak out" at one of our church member's house in Remington Trails.  But first we swung by Midway Grocery Store in Old Katy.  I have been told that they have one of the very best meat market in this entire area.  It's a small, very old-fashioned, somewhat beat-up store...the type you would see in a small town, but worth the trip.  On the way inside Midway we ran into John Seery, who had the same idea and had dropped by to get a fresh cut of steak.  I picked up a couple of really nice looking NY strips, had them wrapped before paying for them.  Later, one of the men grilled my steaks (I only ate one of them)...it was better that Saltgrass or Outback!

We had a wonderful turn-out at this men's event.  Made a couple of new friends.  Our church really has a great bunch of men that truly love God.  Not "glow-in-the-dark" perfect men, but as someone said tonight, we're all "W.I.P.'s"  --  "Works In Progress"!

Stay-at-home moms are worth....

Attention mothers!  New research shows that stay-at-home moms are worth...get this...$117K a year!  frankly, I believe this...if not more than that.   

He was a friendly neighbor...

My wife and I just returned from a funeral service this PM.  It was for a neighbor, Sandy, who bravely fought a 3 year battle with cancer.  He was a very friendly neighbor, the type that makes you appreciate and be grateful you bought a house on that block.  You simply cannot guarantee getting a "gold-plated neighbor" when buying a house, regardless of the price.  Sandy will be sorely missed.  The officiating preacher of the funeral service, Dr. Charles Wisdom (former Senior Pastor at First Baptist in Katy) did a superb job delivering a heaven-focused, evangelistic service.  He reminded all us that "this world is not our home; we're just passing through". 

A good sermon title?

Yesterday I drove by a business on Porter Road (just south of Morton Road) with a large sign that said: "Mercy Slaughter".  I assume it was some sort of slaughterhouse.  Mmmm...wondering if that would be a good sermon title?

WHA-LA...you've got dinnah!

Prior to every Mother's Day I always purchase an extra greeting card.   It's for a sweet Italian elderly lady in The Bronx named Angie.   She was the first secretary that the church I had helped plant hired (about 26 years ago).  Although I was a young "know-it-all" minister, she was patient with me and lovingly reached out like a mother.  Angie has a strong NY accent ("Albit...how are ya!  Ya wanna cup of caw-feee?"), and taught me how to cook various Italian dishes ("Albit...all ya need is some pasta, veggies, olive oil and garlic...and WHA-LA...you've got dinnah!").   Happy Mother's Day Angie!

This evening we had dinner at Carinos Italian Grill with some new church members.  I decided to eat healthy, so ordered a soup and large salad.  It really was wonderful meal and filled me up quite well.  That's why I feel so bad.  You see, when the waiter came to our table and asked if we "had room for dessert", I heard a voice that sounded exactly like mine say, "Yes, I'd like a tiramasu".   I guess I'll need to walk the dog twice tomorrow.

Timeshare Church Memberships!

My favorite dish is their "arroz con pollo"...

Every first Tuesday of the month, after the Morning Ladies Bible Study that my wife teaches, the ladies are all are invited to enjoy a time of food and fellowship at one of the area restaurants.   Tomorrow they are planning to dine at the Palma del Cera on South Mason.  This is a spectacular Columbian/Latin American Cuisine restaurant...great food, atmosphere and service. My favorite dish is their "arroz con pollo" (rice and chicken), finished with a cup of Columbian coffee and their "flan" (caramel custard).   I wonder if the ladies will let me join them this time?

American kids may be over-treated...

Interesting article today suggest that American children may be over-treated with anti-psychotic meds.  It reports that our kids are treated about 6 times the rate of kids in the UK.  From my interaction as a pastor with families, it certainly appears that children are more medicated today than just a few years ago.  If this is true, my prayer is that our FLAG children will receive an extra "dose of the Holy Ghost".
