South India "safron rice"....

Tonight's missions convention banquet at the church was a "smash"!  Everything looked beautiful.  This was the first time we had the banquet on Saturday, and it was a success.  I think we had 11 or 12 or our missionaries present.  Actually, some of the missionaries I had never met in person, but was so glad to do so.

The food was superb!  We had more than enough food.  And a wide variety of cuisine.  I actually had a plate with South India "safron rice" (Mary Abraham) combined with "carne gisada" (Maria Medina). Wow!

Roger Audorff, missionary to Monterey Mexico blessed and challenged us all with his humorous but powerful message.  His passion for the lost is so contagious.

So glad that FLAG is a "missions church".  Looking forward to Part 2 tomorrow morning!

Done entirely with white gloves and black light!

Roger & Morla Walker sent me this AWESOME VIDEO CLIP!  It's done entirely with white gloves and black light....very, very, very creative and inspiring.   The video runs a little over 5 minutes, but I promise you will LOVE IT!

An old-fashion hay ride!

Tomorrow the family will be accompanying the PrimeTimers on a trip to Bryan-College Station to tour some spectacular Christmas lights in the area, as well as enjoy an old-fashion hay ride!  I think the plan is to eat dinner at Golden Corral :-)   The PrimeTimers is the name of our "retirement age" ministry, although some "youngsters" tend to hang out with them.

Rev. David and Jackie Davidson really do a wonderful job overseeing this ministry.  I've always said that the PrimeTimers is our church's "secret weapon"!  These are the most fun and supportive bunch of folks, but more importantly, they know how to "pray through"!  And they're cool, also.

Too often churches miss out on tapping this incredible resource because of being consumed with pursuing the "younger consumers".   So glad this pastor is blessed with PrimeTimers!

Oh, yummy!

A young pastor was making is first visit to the home of an elderly woman who was ill. As they chatted, he nibbled on the peanuts that were in a dish on her bedside table.

When he got us to leave, he said, "Oh, I'm so sorry, I've eaten all your peanuts."

"That's OK," she replied. "I can't eat them anyway, and I'd already sucked all the chocolate off."

USHER ALERT!!!

It's a Cell Phone

Keep him on a short leash!

This evening our family had a session with a special dog trainer...actually he was training us to train our 8-month old Golden Retriever and newest family member.  This guy is really incredible...Katy's own "Dog Whisperer"!   Folks, within minutes he had our Golden behaving and doing things we thought we would never see!

The trainer's name is Jack Richards and his business is called Privileged Pets.  Jack is a retired police officer who trained and handled police dogs ("K-9 Officers") for many years.  He's definitely given new meaning to the phrases "keep him on a short leash" and not "biting the hand that feeds him".

An "Almost Holiday"

Yesterday we celebrated Veteran's Day...an "Almost Holiday".  Why do I say that?  Well, even though the banks and post offices were closed, the kids still had to go to school and most folks had to report to work.  Hencefroth, an "Almost Holiday".

A lot of people don't know that the origination of the word "holiday" comes from the combination of two words, "holy" + "day".  These were to be set aside from all other days in remembrance and worship of God, such as Resurrection Sunday and Christmas

Did you know that the most important "holy day" was set aside by God Himself?  And it was to be celebrated weekly? This ultra "Holy day" is called the Sabbath. To most Christians it is Sunday.

Unfortunately, to many church folk the Sabbath is just like Veteran's Day.  It's an "Almost Holy-Day".  It's not fully devoted for Him.

Mmmmmmm.

OK, folks...I need your input!

OK, folks...I need your input!   What are some MUST DO's in the Houston metro area during the Christmas season?  For instance, in NYC we HAD to go to Manhattan to see the big Christmas tree in Rockerfeller Center, as well as tour the window displays of the stores on 5th Avenue.

This coming weekend...

This coming weekend we are hosting our Annual Missions Convention.  A very special feature this year is the "Kidz Missions" events for our children.  In other words, they are having their own missions convention. Kool!   We are flying in one of our missionaries, Kelly Ward, just to be their special speaker.  Kelly is a veteran children's minister.   Saturday @ 5 p.m. our children will have a pizza dinner, then participate in a missions crafts project.  Sunday morning they will enjoy a puppet show and other fun missions activities.

Don't let your children and their friends miss out on this!
