Black-eyed peas

Just got back from buying black-eyed peas at the grocery store.  It's a tradition here in Texas to eat black-eyed peas and corn bread on New Year's Eve.  My wife does a great job cooking them!  She spices 'em up just right...the cooked bacon adds that touch of "yum".

Actually, while living in the country in East Texas, she also showed me how to enjoy the "leisure of shelling peas" on the front porch.  Who would've "thunk" that this ole' NYer would be shelling peas "a la Mayberry"!

Interesting Christmas card situation....

OK...here's an interesting Christmas card "situation".   You receive a Christmas card from someone; meanwhile, you have already sent them a card.  OK...they're off your list.  Right? Ahhh, but then a couple of weeks later, they send you another Christmas card!  Mmmm...strange.  They probably didn't realize it.

What to do? Do you send them another card?  Let them know they've sent you two cards?  Not say anything?

Christmas in the Texas Panhandle

Our family just returned from spending Christmas with family in the Texas Panhandle.  The countryside is very beautiful in a different way.  Rugged terrain, sparse, mostly flat with some hills, all kind of wildlife, and the most incredible sunsets.  The people are matter-of-fact-friendly.  Your "next door neighbor" may be a couple of miles down the road.  This is the Texas that I'd always imagined about as a child in NYC.  The long but therapeutic drive to and from there was very relaxing.

My little boy had the special pleasure of playing with snow while we were there.  He made and threw snowballs, and rolled in it until he became an ice cone! We stopped at unique, local eateries for our meals.

I am so grateful that when God created the earth, He created variety for us to enjoy.

I saw the Loch Nest Monster yesterday...

I was certain that I saw the Loch Nest Monster yesterday at Mary Peckham Park.  While I was standing by the park lake, he suddenly peeked his dark, round head  out of the middle of the water and looked straight at me!

But my wife told me it was just a turtle.  Mmmmm.

"Brother & Sister Cheesehead"

Our "adopted" missionaries, Roger and Debbi Audorff" (a.k.a. "Brother & Sister Cheesehead" :-) , will be leaving on January 2nd.  Our church had arranged to rent them a nice house in Katy this past year to use as their "home base" while they raised their financial support.

We're going to miss them, but plan to visit them in the future in Monterrey on a ministry trip.  They have become dear friends to The Cortez Family.  Keep their children in prayer. One son is serving in Iraq (his wife is in San Antonio), the other son living in McAllen, and their daughter recently began a career as a flight attendant.

Visit their blog  and leave them a "shout out".

Wow, wow, wow and ...WOW!!

Roger Walker sent this to me several months ago.  IT IS AWESOME!!!!  Wow, wow, wow and...WOW!!

Take a listen.   Turn up the volume.  I promise that for 3 powerful minutes, you will HAVE CHURCH!!!

ONLY FOUR MORE SHOPPING DAYS....

Today's newspaper exclaimed, "ONLY FOUR MORE SHOPPING DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS!".

Soooo.....???   Aaand.....???

Hey folks, let's not become distracted with the priorities of this world vs. the priorities of Heaven!

Adrian Rogers

I just completed reading to biography of the late Rev. Adrian Rogers, "Love Worth Finding", authored by his childhood sweetheart and wife, Joyce Rogers.  He was quite a man of God with an incredible "spiritual backbone".  Rev. Rogers served as Senior Pastor of the historic  Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis...get this...for 33 years before her retired!  I was inspired by his life story.
