"Y'all fixin' to rope some cattle?"

I now officially own prime Big Bend property.  Yep, this ole' New Yorkah is in possession of a piece of this wonderful region of west Texas.   Actually just a small rock.  It was given to me by a couple of FLAG members that recenly made a pilgrimage to Big Bend.  As soon as I put this rock in my pocket, I found myself wanting to say such phrases as, "Howdy partner", "Y'all fixin' to rope some cattle?"....and "Go ahead, make my day".   In fact, I think my legs became bowed and now I walk with a swagger.  

I think the entire process only took about an hour...

Well, this morning we moved-in our new Youth & Young Adults Pastor, Jason Nordin and his bride, Kim.  We had a great turnout of youth and adult manpower who helped unload the U-Haul truck and carry everything into their new apartment.  I think the entire process only took about an hour or so.  So glad it was a nice day; evidently, the Nordin caravan drove in the rain all the way from Little Rock yesterday, before checkin into an area hotel for the night.  They'll be in church in the AM (hope they can find their clothes in the midst of all the boxes in their apt!).

Growing up in NYC, every Thanksgiving morning we had a ritual of watching the incredible Macy's Parade on our black & white TV.  This is the "grand daddy" of all parades, and the start of the Christmas season in The Big Apple.   A couple of times, we got up early on Thanksgiving Day and took the subway into Manhattan to join crowds stationed on either side of 5th Avenue, and oooh and ahhh at the humongous floats.  This morning I plan to catch the parade on TV, and enjoy fond memories of eating large, hot pretzels with mustard while standing near Tiffany's and watching a waving Santa being driven by on his way to Macy's.

We saw the FATTEST alley cat ever!

Today we arrived at the Rockport-Fulton area where we plan to celebrate Thanksgiving (my wife's parents are coming over from nearby Corpus area where they live).   It's a charming Texas coastal community that we really like.  Great seafood and they have wonderful art galleries (lot's of artists live here).   While walking by the docks to watch the many just-arrived boats unload tons of fresh oysters inside large burlap bags, we saw the FATTEST alley cat ever!  No need to feel sorry for this homeless feline; he probably eats much better at these docks than the average house cat.   Oh, by the way, if you are ever in the area, a "must" place to dine is Charlotte Plummer's located right at the water. Great food and views.

I'll be 49

My wife ordered an entire Italian Cream Cake from Rocco's for my upcoming B-day, which happens to fall this year on Thanksgiving Day.   I'll be 49.  I told one of our church members, John Sullivan, that I'm looking forward to getting my Aarp Card next year so that I can enjoy discounts at Luby's ;-)   He didn't realize that at 50, he already qualified for one.  Hey, they say that 50 is the new 40!  Sooo....I'll tell The Mrs to go ahead and only purchase 39 candles this year, right?

Ooh La La

This evening, a wonderful couple from FLAG took us to a fabulous place here in Katy called Ooh La La Dessert Boutique.  It's on Westheimer, just off Grand Pkwy.  Folks, I had a sugar high just walking into this high-calorie eatery!   I had the most amazing (and huge) piece of Italian Cream Cake, along with a Chai Latte.  The inside of this place looks like a hybrid between Starbucks and a fancy French bakery.  I'll be back!
