I left the Christmas tree up until the end of January.

Before I was married, one year I left the Christmas tree up until the end of January.  And do you know what?  I didn't feel guilty at all.  Just wanted to streeeetch the season a bit longer.   Today, someone told me of a man that simply covered his fully-decortated tree with a sheet until the following December!  What was the longest that you left your Christmas tree up?

What a way to launch 2009!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's New Year's Eve Watchnight Service.    There's just something very special about being in God's house with your loved ones, and saying goodbye to this year & hello to the new year while on our knees in prayer and adoration.   Immediately aftter midnight, once we've told each other "Happy New Year", as the first sacred act that we do in 2009, we will be partaaking of Holy Communion.   What a way to launch 2009!

This is how I feel I feel about 2008, as we "wrap it up" this week.  Hope you feel the same.

She lost control of the Suburban she was driving....

This Sunday morning, we suspended Sunday School and just had the worship service.   Since so many of our staff and platform folks were out of town, I opted to handle the entire service myself.  I made certain there was a bottle of water near me, and tried my best to save my voice for the sermon.  Angie Chappell, our primary piano player, assisted me during the worship segment.  She is top notch, able play "old" songs and hymns, as well as contemporary songs....also is able to easily "flow" with the worship, even when we venture off "The List" and an impromptu song is led.  (BTW...she did an awesome job with her song "special" this morning!).   Brittany Scoggins also played a beautiful flute solo before I preached.  It was her special "thank you" to the Lord for protecting her this week when she lost control of the Suburban she was driving, and it rolled over several times.   Praise the Lord...just scratches and a few bumps.  BTW, we again had another great turnout at church despite many folks being away this weekend.  It's really been a sweet Christmas holiday season at FLAG

Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised....

Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised by the tremendous turnout at tonight's one-hour Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service.  The people just kept coming into the sanctuary at 6pm!   I noticed that during the worship segment, Rick Cummins, our head usher, was at the back frantically filling extra communion cups with grapejuice due to unexpected crowd.  There were a number of first time visitors, and everyone seemed excited to be there.  I understand that a young lady gave her heart to the Lord during the service.  Beautiful.  That made this Christmas Eve even more special to this pastor.

YOU'VE GOT TO WATCH THIS CLIP!!   After a recent live show, entertainer Penn Gilette, who is an ardent atheist, was given a Bible as a gift.  Penn's reaction and thoughts about this incident is really worth listening to.   I'd love to hear your comments....
