Kemah this summer

We'be been living in Katy almost 5 years and have yet to visit Kemah.  I understand it is a very enjoyable place...lot's to do.   Although I'm not a fan of wild rides, I'll do a ferris wheel.   We're hoping to go as a family sometime this summer.   There's just something about being near water that's soothing.

Laughing, crying and rejoicing!

Mary Jean Pidgeon is the special speaker at the Ladies Retreat that our church is having this weekend.  Our women are in for a delightful treat. I'm sure that they'll end up laughing, crying and rejoicing while receiving from her ministry.  In addition to a wonderful ministry to women that she's had for many many years, Mary Jean is co-founder & co-pastor of West Houston Christian Center with her dear husband, Jack.  They have become special friends of my wife and I, and have been a tremendous blessing to us.   I'm anticipating great reports on Sunday.

Chopsticks are great if....

 

One of our favorite places to eat in Katy is Pho Saigon, located on the southwest corner of Mason & Cimarron.   Actually, there was another Vietnamese restaurant we used to go to that had great food also, but theire large TVs on the walls were loud and intrusive.  Often we had to ask the management either to lower the volume or change the channel (especially when we had our son with us).   Anyway, when I first went to Pho Saigon and noticed they did not have any TVs - that was a big plus.  The decor is very chic, the ambiance very smoothing (relaxing instrumental music), and the service fairly good.  If you go, try their beef soup or the charbroiled chicken with steamed rice.   BTW, chopsticks are a great if you're not in a big hurry or hungry.  I'll stick to the old fashion fork and knife which are easier to handle when you're all thumbs!

Tornado watch or warning?

At around 6pm today we had a Tornado Warning here in Katy.  I kept listening for the sound of a train.  The fact that there's an active train track near our home certainly didn't make my apprehension any less.   I've always heard that tornadoes can be so severe that even pencils could be driven through walls.   Mmmm...that would be ironic.  I survived the "A" train in Brooklyn but may die by a Number 2 pencil in Texas.   One more thing, I still get my tornado watches & warnings confused.   One is evidently worse than the other.   As far as I know, one means a tornado is coming for the east, the other means its coming from the west.   ;-)

Honeymoon?

Geek Squad

My son and I took our DVD player that would not eject a disk to the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy.   Within a few minutes, one of the geek workers handed us the disk, DVD player, and didn't charge us anything.  Nice.
