Rain?

Rain?  Did I hear that sound last evening?  I think it sprinkled somewhat around where we  live.  It is predicted that we have a 50% chance of rain today.  I find it rather interesting that some folks go from major complaining when it rains, to major whining when it doesn't.  Not talking about simple comments, but major public oratory presentations!   Usually those are the very same people that simply do not know how to have a grateful and thankful attitude.  The Bible teaches us that "in everything (not "for everything") give Him thanks, for this is the will of God".  Sooooooo....whether is rains or not, we look to heaven with a smile and a praise on our lips!

Post-Father's Day thoughts....

 

This is a picture of my father (he's the one squatting down with the "Clark Kent" classes) with a few of his friends in NYC.   Sadly, he died suddenly from undiagnosed leukemia just a month after I was born.  He left behind a 23 year old wife, a 2 year old toddler, and me.   My mother never did recover from this tragedy, later marrying an abusive man who was never a father to my brother or me.  Frankly, we had a very difficult and painful childhood.   But God!!   You see, the Bible teaches that God is a "father to the fatherless".  He graciously and lovingly filled all the deficits we have....if we allow Him.  And he did.   As a result, I can pray to Him, "My Father, who art in Heaven".   Neither my brother or I were swallowed up by the despair, depravity or desperation of the inner city....because of our Father in heaven.  (BTW, my brother, Jeffrey, is also an ordained Assemblies of God minister and serves as Associate pastor of a large and dynamic church in The Bronx, Crossroads Tabernacle).  Only the Lord can turn scars into beauty marks.  To God be the glory!

"Yardwork-itus"

I need a touch in my body today.  Reason?  Severe case of "yardwork-istus".   Symptoms are severe muscle aches and pains, blisters, sore feet, lightheadedness, thirst and overwhelming fatique.

Sooooo...replacing a browned lawn after the summer.....

Here's an interesting "illogical" logic that I recently heard from someone regarding the grueling Texas hot weather.   In order to make certain that their monthly water bill did not not significantly increase during the summer months. they were simply not going to water their lawn on a regular basis.  Soooooooo.... replacing a browned lawn after the summer is cheaper than an extra $30 bucks a month until the Fall?  

My 7-year-old presented to me this morning....

My 7-year-old son presented to me this morning a special hand-made Father's Day card to me.   It was precious.  Why?  Because it was art that came from the heart.   Just like when we give God our praise, despite our deficits and handicaps.  As far as He is concerned, if our "art" (praise and worship) comes straaight from the heart, it is always precious in His sight.
