HOT!!! And it's not officially summer, but certainly feels like The Sahara Desert. This is the time of year that everything that is green in Texas turns brown. I remember my first summer in Texas....I felt like a raisin. But you know what? It's amazing how years ago, most folks in Texas didn't have A/C. They simply kept windows open, fans blowing, drank lots of iced tea, and didn't rush around. Somehow they were able to cope with the Texas heat without whining. I guess that means that today we have Privileged Whiners.
OK, I am NOT quite ancient yet, and I remember when we did NOT have a/c at all. When I was five, we added onto the house. When that occurred we got a window unit air conditioner that cooled that part of the house. But even then we only closed off that part of the house and turned on the a/c on very, very hot days. That was a treat!! I don't remember when we got a window unit that would cool the other part of the house. I do know that I was in college before we put in central air and heat. Before a/c we slept with the windows open and a box fan blowing. There was nothing between you and the outside world except the window screen. Things were a lot simpler back then.
