Gold-embossed napkins

My son and I went to the McDonald's on Westheimer for lunch today after VBS.  I've never been to a McD other than this one that has fancy interior decor & window treatments, upscale bathrooms and a gourmet coffee bar.  I kinda was expecting gold-embossed napkins!

VBS...part 3

OK, this morning Erin Rothchild has offcially upstaged Darrell Woodard in the "Crazy Outfit" department.   She wore multiple-colored curly ribbons in her hair, and a vibrant yellow "fluff" wrap around her neck.  Very much a "psych unit" look...all for the glory of Jesus! :-)

John Michale Sullivan, our intern youth minister, is the culprit for the kids coming inside drenched in water after playing on our lawn....they looked (and some even smelled) like wet puppies!   Not sure what Central Bible College will say when he returns there this Fall.

Emily Kammerlohr, one of our youth, has a "wonderfully hyper" child under her supervision this week....adult workers are admitting to looking forward to "power naps" during the afternoons....

I'll you everyone posted with VBS updates!

VBS "P.S."...

Actually, Patricia's colorful sock were FEET GLOVES!  Great for climbing trees.    Sarah Ellis wore really funky eyewear.  Looks like Patti Scoggins took off from work this week to work in the VB, and to wear "designer clothes".

When I returned to pick up my son at 12:30, it seemed there were even more kids...almost as if they had multiplied, like when you cook rice.  A lot of the kids and youth workers were wet...some sort of "water event" oudoors.

It's gonna be some week!

He wore the loudest and most gaudy plaid shorts....

My wife and I just returned from dropping our boy off at the church in order to participate in the "Power Lab" VBS.  Awesome!  There were many, many children there this morning.  All kind of shapes, colors and sizes, and all delightful.

But perhaps what really struck me were the interesting outfits the adult workers were wearing!  Their "look" was that of "Crazy Lab Professors".   Belinda Britton had a hardhat with a flower on it, Patricia Foster was wearing colorful & abstract socks, and Debbie Kammerlohr "kookie professor" outfit with a rainbow hair-extension was "special".  But the most "interesting" outfit was Darrell Woodard...he wore the loudest and most gaudy plaid baggy shorts I've ever seen!!  He was walking across the parking lot when we pulled up. Couldn't help seeing him form afar.

Mmmm....wondering who really is enjoying this VBS week the most, the kids or the adults?

Think Empire State Building...

It was interesting preaching this morning around & in front of colorful VBS props. Frankly, many pastors would have preferred not to, instead requesting these props to be set-up on the platform after the Sunday sermon.  Hey, what can I say...I'm wired differently.

One of the props at church was a "time machine".  It was on the floor in front and to my right.  Evidently, it would transport someone to another time.  That got me thinking.  If I could be transported in time, where would I choose to go?  Probably to the late 1940's in NYC.  People in those days, especially in the city, all dressed very dapper and classy.  "Art deco" was the rage (my favorite art style...think Empire State Building & Rockerfeller Center). WWII was finally over, and patriotism was at a peak as grateful people were settling back to "normal life.   War movies made way to movies about love and laughter.

OK...back to 2008 and the world of digital this-and-that.  Not a problem.  The same Jesus that blessed people in the 40's is still the same.  He's better than "Art Deco".  He is TIMELESS.

Played the boardgame "Sorry!"

Today I spent some "quality time" with my 6-year-old boy while Mommy was attending a Ladies Event in Houston.  What did we do?  Played the boardgame "Sorry!" for a while.   Does anyone out there remember that game?  It's amazing to see his competitive spirit become so activated!  He really wanted to beat me...no mercy whatsoever.  And when he was able to "get" one of my "men", I don't think he felt any sympathy.  BTW...I barely won both games.  Whew!

Dirty fingerprints

Today the church campus is buzzing with exciting activity as workers are transforming it into a huge "power laboratory"!   It's exciting to see adults, youth and children all working together as a team.  Next week we anticipate the entire campus to be full of children during VBS.  Yep..that means wear and tear on the facilities, possibly crayon marks and dirty fingerprints on the walls...but in God's eyes these are all "beauty marks"!

The Bible reports that during a big event, the disciples wanted to "shoo" away the many kids around Jesus.  I guess they were afraid of dirty fingerprints.  But Jesus said, "Let the children come to Me, for such is the Kingdon of God".  Mmmmm...I guess He was the first "Children's Pastor"!

"MEOW!!!!"

We're back home from our family vacation, now I need a "vacation to recover from the vacation".  Does anyone relate?  Whew!  During the past 24 hours we have already plowed through a ton of mail, watered out dried out lawn, done laundry, picked up groceries, gotten haircuts, kept a doctor's appointment ("Don't forget to come fasting", said Nurse Dracula) and scratched a very angry cat's ears ("MEOW!!!!!").

Cracker Barrel

I've must have lost count of how many Cracker Barrels we ate at during our vacation.  It's amazing how they all pretty much look alike, and have the same "feel" inside.  I guess there is something comforting about going to a restaurant that is familiar, almost as if you're "home", when traveling away from your real home.  You know what I mean?  BTW...just wondering if anyone has actually purchased one of their wooden rocking chairs?
